Fundraise in your community:
A tremendous and long-lasting difference can be made in the lives of Makondo's children and villagers when you fundraise for St. Stephen Children's Centre. Every dollar you help to raise improves the living conditions and education and work opportunities for everyone in this village. All money fundraised internationally can be paid to The BC Society for St. Stephen Children’s Centre, who will then distribute the funds to our centre in Uganda according to Canada Revenue Agency regulations, to ensure accountability and transparency in how we use all funds donated to our centre.
Fundraisers can be as simple as posting this website on Facebook or on other social media, business, or crowd-sourcing websites like GoFundMe.com or YouCaring.com and asking family, friends, businesses, and customers to donate and tell others about it too.
#GivingTuesday is a great day to get people to join you in donating to charities, including St. Stephen Children's Centre (www.givingtuesday.org).

Holiday, birthday, wedding, or celebration gift drives are also great and easy fundraisers, where you and others choose to donate to St. Stephen's Children's Centre as gifts, which comes complete with personalized messages of thanks from the students and villagers.
Fundraisers can be done on a larger scale through events like bake sales, garage/yard/flea market/swap meet sales, craft sales, festival/farmer's market sales, sports events and walk/run/swim-athons, art exhibits, and benefit concerts at your local church, community centre, park, or work place.
Even larger donations and grants can be obtained through campaigns to larger charitable organizations in your country or community, such as Rotary Clubs or Africa aid organizations.

Fundraise in your community:
In 2013, I decided to put on a Halloween display at our home and use it to raise funds for St. Stephen Children's Centre. I had no idea how extraordinary the whole experience would become. Not only were we able to raise far more money than we ever expected (over $1500!) but more significantly, I was incredibly touched by how much the entire St. Stephen's community participated and joined in on the event, all the way from Uganda. They were eager to learn about Halloween and pirates and put on a huge Halloween celebration of their own, complete with pirate crafts, dancing, and even Halloween candy. When I received their personalized messages of thanks, I was deeply moved. My relationship with Ben and my involvement with St. Stephen Children's Centre are among the most meaningful experiences of my life. I am thrilled to be able to do this as an annual event and provide ongoing support to an incredible organization.

I have come to know of Ben and his community through my good friend, Julie. Julie fights a daily battle with illness yet still makes caring for other people a priority in her life. I was inspired by her.
In keeping with her Halloween pirate theme we organized The Pirates of the Lakes fundraiser. A couple of hours spent kayaking on our beautiful lake with good friends and a few dollars from our pockets helped to put a roof on St. Stephen Children's Centre's nursery school!! We are now doing this as an annual event. We also have two very special new family members - our family is now also a proud sponsor of Kizza Roland and his sister Nakalema Resty.
Together we are learning that if we each make one small move to support and care for someone else, we can change lives.
